Perry was born in Chicago to two actors Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. Her first roles on television included two episodes on the show as Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) on The ABC sitcom Roseanne as the character played by her mom. But her parents would not allow her to act until she was an adult because of the impact stress might affect their child. Perry shy and timid to perform in the school, began to perform in the theater at Northwestern University because she wanted to make new acquaintances. Perry moved to New York, where she was offered small roles in shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Home sickiness led Perry her back home California which was where theatre jobs were in demand. The Other Place was performed by her mother and her in 2013 on Broadway in 2013. The show featured their father Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in the year 2015 in the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. Perry appeared in nine episodes of the ABC crime thriller The Family in 2016. In 2017, she had a minor role on ABC's thriller about politics Scandal which starred her father. She also played in the role of a younger Mary Cooper in Young Sheldon - which is a CBS spin-off of The Big Bang Theory. The character was chosen through an audition, even having a strong relationship with the show.
